Isaura has been an active public speaker on issues of violence prevention and forgiveness and a counselor for grieving families with a strong commitment to the children and young adults in her community. Over the years, BMPL has carried out the following neighborhood-based programs:

Parents and Children’s Walk for Peace

Our first program, a “peace walk” through Dorchester’s Upham’s Corner neighborhood, bringing together community members, public officials, and supporters to celebrate life, honor those lost, and call for peace on the streets.

The Parent’s and Children Walk For Peace was produced for 10 years and has inspired other communities to create their own walks.

7 Principles of Life Awards

Based on 7 Principles of Life: Courage, Hope, Faith, Love, Unity, Justice and Forgiveness.

Seven awards or scholarships are presented annually at The Matthew’s Courage Awards Dinner.

These $1,000 grants enable deserving youth in our community to pursue post secondary education or career goals.

Back to School Barbecue

Giving a boost to school-age youth, distributing school supplies and encouraging them to succeed.

Christmas with Bobby

An annual celebration for neighborhood children; this past Christmas more than 100 children and family members attended, enjoying gifts from Santa, a Cape Verdean luncheon, music, and a good time for all!

Success Buttons

“Buttons” created for neighborhood children and youth celebrating their successes in school and graduations.

Survivor Support and Grief Counseling

Isaura meets with families and loved ones of those lost to violence, providing empathy and understanding.
